Department of Medical Laboratory Sciences of the Pharmacy Wing organised an Expert Talk on the topic of “BLOOD DONATION”

Dr. Neeraj Sharma, HOD, Blood Bank, Guru Nanak Dev Hospital, Amritsar, was the main speaker who spoke at length covering various aspects of blood donation.
In her address, she said that the Blood that we Donate could save precious life of someone who can be your close relative, a friend, a loved one and it may be even you yourself.
She explained the various components of blood like Red Blood Cells, Plasma, or Platelets. She highlighted the importance of Blood donation, which is a process of collecting, testing, preparing, and storing blood and its components.
Any healthy person over 18 years of age can donate blood and serve the mankind by saving life of those who need blood.
She elaborated that the blood collected by donation is not directly transfused. It has to undergo various tests like- HIV-1, HIV-2, Hepatitis B & Hepatitis C, Syphilis and Malaria.
Hence it is beneficial to know all things both for the donor as well as for the donee or recipient.
She motivated the students to donate blood after every 3 months as it is quite safe and also good for their health.
The lecture was highly appreciated by the students as well as by the faculty members.
A vote of thanks was moved at the end by the Principal.
Dr Neeraj was requested to visit the Institute again in the near future for delivering more such lectures which she readily accepted.
