An Expert Lecture: “Basic Terminology of Fashion Designing” & Workshop on: Basic Embroidery

The Department of Fashion Design organized an expert lecture and hands-on workshop on 19th February 2026 to enhance students’ conceptual clarity and practical skills in the field of fashion.
The session was conducted by Ms. Ramandeep Kaur, Assistant Professor from Chandigarh University, who delivered an insightful lecture on Basic Terminology used in Fashion. She elaborated on essential fashion vocabulary related to garment construction, silhouettes, textiles, surface ornamentation, fashion cycles, and industry-specific terms. The session helped students strengthen their foundational understanding, which is crucial for academic learning as well as professional communication in the fashion industry.
Following the lecture, Ms. Kaur conducted a practical Workshop on Embroideries, where she demonstrated various basic embroidery techniques and stitches. Students were guided through hands-on practice, learning about stitch types, thread selection, fabric suitability, and finishing techniques. The workshop encouraged creativity, precision, and craftsmanship among students.
The session was highly interactive, with students actively participating and clarifying their doubts. The expert also shared valuable industry insights and emphasized the importance of technical knowledge combined with skill development in building a successful career in fashion.
